Our medium thick Chaeto / Chaetomorpha algae species offers the fastest growth rate and is a perfect choice to lower nitrate and phosphate levels in the marine aquarium. As it grows much faster than the thick Chaetomorpha which we offer too it will need a minimum nitrate level of 2-3 ppm, otherwise it may starve and struggle.
We have a palatable Chaeto species as well HERE and the slower growing Chaeto species HERE
Chaetomorpha Chaeto Linum Marine Macroalgae
Premium Marine Macro algae for the Planted Reef Display Tank & Refugium for sale on Live Algae UK.
Your 1st choice for clean Marine Macroalgae from Fish & Copper free tanks since 2014.
Light
The medium thick Chaetomorpha / Chaeto marine macroalgae loves the light, as more as you provide as faster it will grow.
Palatable
This Chaetomorpha algae species is rarely eaten, if so mainly by larger herbivore marine fish species.
Attaching
Chaeto / Chaetomorpha algae species are not invasive and they won't attach themselves. A great choice for the refugium for nutrients export.
Trimming
Whitish parts of the Chaeto should be removed as they are decomposing. But Chaeto is a very stable macroalgae, so this should hardly happen.
Treatment
Like for most marine macroalgae a higher level of Nitrate and Phosphate, in addition to the supplement of Iron, Magnesium and Trace elements will improve the growth of this live algae.
If the macroalgae is not growing as expected a special formulated fertiliser for the marine aquarium can help to improve the growth of the macroalgae. Please find a selection of supplements for the marine aquarium HERE
Chaetomorpha Linum Variations
Chaeto Linum - or often called Spaghetti Algae - are a loosely entangled group of macro algae species which are non-invasive with unbranched filaments usually between 3 and 40 cm long. The colour of it is varying between dark green to bright or yellowish green. It occurs in various diameter sizes ranging between 0.2 - 2.5mm. We have a few different Chaetomorpha / Chaeto species available but classify this non-palatable macro algae Chaeto mainly in a very thick Chaeto group, which grows medium fast but is therefore more tolerant to low nutrients in the water and where nutrients remover like Rowaphos, Carbon, Nitrate remover or other water polisher are used. and a medium thick Chaeto group which grows much faster and is therefore our recommended choice for nutrients removal. As it grows very fast it will need sufficient Nutrients to stay stable and might suffer or die off when necessary nutrients ( especially Nitrate and Phosphate ) are very low or where nutrients remover like Rowaphos, Carbon, Nitrate remover or other water polisher are used. If you prefer one of them please let us know. We recommend for Chaeto as well to maintain good Magnesium levels and dosing of Iodine and Iron.
Please note
Our macroalgae are from fish free macro algae tanks, although we use sometimes pictures for demonstration purposes only which will include fishes, seahorses and or corals.
We do our best to quarantine, treat and remove any unwanted hitchhikers, parasites etc from our macro algae but we can not guarantee that the algae are completely free of anything unwanted, not limited to Copepods, Rotifers etc. This is simply because that sometimes eggs, spores, etc can remain viable but not visible and hitchhikers can still stay hidden, especially in dense algae structures, despite our strict quarantine efforts.
We highly recommend nonetheless that you properly quarantine anything new before adding it to your marine tank.
We aim to offer you the healthiest and best quality macro algae on the market, therefore, all of our macro algae comes with a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

Your Livealgae UK
Hi. Thank you for your question. We know that there are different opinions about what grow light spectrum is better for macroalgae to grow.
When it comes to Chaeto we recommend to use the bloom setting with the Kessil H380 as it offers a bit more intense red light & a bit less blue light than the grow setting which is for Chaetomorpha a better choice from our experience.
Both settings will produce though a good macroalgae growth. The grow setting we recommend more for red algae species, like Gracilaria for example.
We hope this helps and when you have any further questions please let us know.

Possibly not suitable for a refugium
0 of 0 people found the following review helpfulBought 250ml for a refugium only to wake up in the morning to find it all gone (Too thin and strands are too short, so it simply disintegrated). I think it is best suited to an algae reactor. I did buy some Linum Thick for another refugium previously and that flourished. I think I will stick to that next time.
Perfect for my new algae reactor
